SUNMI and Penki Kontinentai Group Discussed Business Development Opportunities in New Markets

2024-06-06
A delegation from Penki Kontinentai Group, including ASHBURN International and BS/2, met with SUNMI's management in Shanghai in May 2024. Key group representatives learned about SUNMI's operations and introduced their software products. Both parties discussed potential collaboration and signed a Memorandum of Strategic Partnership.

During the visit, Penki Kontinentai Group sought SUNMI Corporation’s assistance in expanding its software solutions across existing and new markets.

Smart Devices for Payment Business Optimization

In the summer of 2021, ASHBURN International introduced new SUNMI terminals with its payment application to the Lithuanian market. There was a first step toward further collaboration. Later, these solutions were expanded to Azerbaijan, Georgia, Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, and other countries.
Customers quickly recognized the devices for their high quality, stylish design, reasonable price, and extensive functionality.

Android OS EFTPOS terminals have revolutionized payment processing. The operating system allows these devices to run multiple software applications simultaneously. For example, the “3-in-1” solution via ASHBURN International combines payment processing, cash register functionality, and, if needed, online fiscalization. To deploy the 3-in-1 solution, TransLink’s SmartPOS payment application integrates with partners’ business applications (cash register, fiscal module) using ASHBURN International APIs.

SUNMI product line for acquiring business

TransLink.iQ enhances Android-based devices by adding tips, QR code payments, barcode scanning, and separating transaction flows for different recipients. Such variety makes EFTPOS terminals more versatile and efficient for businesses.

TransLink.iQ was presented to SUNMI partners during the Shanghai meeting. The software supports flexible business models and provides a comprehensive line of TaaS (Terminal as a Service) and SaaS (Software as a Service). Remote terminal management, device monitoring, and customer support process optimization are among these services.

The new agreements between SUNMI and Penki Kontinentai Group may significantly expand ASHBURN International’s software product promotion network.

Žoržas Šarafanovičius, Executive Director of ASHBURN International:

Our meeting at SUNMI headquarters marked a new phase in our cooperation and has already brought positive results. We have discussed business collaborations with partners from Bangladesh, Pakistan, Egypt, Kuwait, and many others, whose equipment comes from SUNMI and requires advanced software solutions.
ASHBURN International’s approach is based on synergy—where hardware manufacturers integrate ASHBURN’s software into their devices, and we, in turn, bundle these devices with our solutions. SUNMI demonstrates flexibility and commitment to mutually beneficial collaborations. This motto aligns with our goal of building similar relationships with all of our suppliers.

SUNMI Payment Terminals with 3-in-1 Features Gain Popularity

Many countries have required online fiscalization of sales transactions, making the “3-in-1” solution particularly relevant. Businesses enjoy ease of use with SUNMI payment devices with ergonomic screens and built-in cash register functions.
ASHBURN International has extensive experience implementing these solutions across Central Asia, Europe, and the Caucasus. The company delivers projects of any complexity, tailored to customer needs and local legal requirements. Through integration with various technological partners, ASHBURN International enables its customers to save resources and gain additional benefits from collaborative projects.

A recent example is the successful implementation of “3-in-1” functionality on SUNMI P2 terminals for Victoriabank in Moldova.

The devices were integrated with software from multiple cash register equipment manufacturers, as requested by the bank. The Plug-and-Play approach to installation allows businesses to choose their preferred cash solution providers.

Spring 2024 marked the first introduction of SUNMI 3-in-1 payment terminals in the Baltic States. By mid-2025, Lithuanian businesses will be required to replace outdated cash registers with modern devices capable of fiscal accounting due to the upcoming online fiscalization law. Lithuanian Tax Inspectorate has handled transactions and financial reports. ASHBURN International is prepared to provide retailers with modern “3-in-1” devices.

As of now, Lithuania and Latvia are taking steps to implement this technology. With the support of local cash register software developers, ASHBURN International is launching a “3-in-1” product to meet market needs.

In negotiations with local acquirers, this solution will be integrated into the automated process for registering merchants and connecting them to various payment vendors.

The “2-in-1” (payment solution plus register) and “3-in-1” (with fiscalization) software products are expected to enter the Poland market in the second half of 2024.

In 2023, ASHBURN International partnered with transnational acquirer Elavon, which operates over 150,000 payment terminals in Poland alone. With Elavon, which serves as a processing center, ASHBURN International certifies SUNMI equipment and software in Poland and other EU countries. These terminals will support Mastercard, Visa, American Express, UPI, Diners Club International, JCB, and the national payment system BLIK.

Solutions Connecting the Payment World

During the trip to Shanghai, the delegation visited SUNMI Home, located at the corporation’s headquarters.
Representatives from ASHBURN International and BS/2 explored the latest products, including the Super POS. This unique device operates on both Android and Windows OS and features an additional customer-facing screen that doubles as a detachable tablet.

SUNMI’s third-generation devices cover a wide range of business needs. In particular, the SUNMI P3 terminal, which was unveiled at EuroCIS 2024 in Düsseldorf, features a sleek design, a large ergonomic screen, and integrated payment capabilities.

The SUNMI P3 is ideal for small and medium-sized businesses in retail, dining, beauty services, and other industries.

During the meeting in Shanghai, the Penki Kontinentai Group delegation presented TransLink.iQ and DS Center.iQ software to their partners.

With TransLink.iQ, SUNMI partners can enhance payment terminal functionality and expand service offerings. Among these are multi-banking, multi-hosting, multi-merchant, and multi-acquiring, which provide integration with multiple banks, servers, merchants, and online payment systems.

The DS Center.iQ decision support system provides access to a comprehensive database, presenting information in a clear and user-friendly format. With the Merchant Acquiring service, businesses can assess cash flow, adjust tariffs based on specific merchants, and review key metrics such as active terminals, equipment failures, and service quality performance (SLA).
Further, DS Center.iQ offers financial forecasting capabilities, including expected return on investment (ROI), to provide managers with optimized financial performance.

The Expanding Scale of High-Tech Development in Asia.

Shanghai is a major industrial and commercial hub. SUNMI’s main office is located in the city’s business district, also known as China’s Silicon Valley. The area is home to global corporations like TikTok, and other major tech clusters.
As part of the visit, a delegation from the Penki Kontinentai Group visited Luxshare Precision Industry Co., an industrial conglomerate that manufactures components for Samsung, Apple, Huawei, and SUNMI devices.

Additionally, the delegation visited the China-Singapore Jiashan Modern Industrial Park, where SUNMI is a member. Companies in this park specialize in sensors for high-tech devices.

The park features a production complex and residential buildings, supporting up to 80,000 employees living and working on-site. SUNMI also plans to launch small-scale production at this location.

Nikolajs Želnins, Market Development Manager for Uzbekistan, BS/2:

“We make sure that SUNMI’s product line is manufactured to the highest standards. This applies to all stages, from component production to device testing. Each terminal is assigned a serial number, which allows us to track the production date, configuration, and assembly employee.
With optimized processes, high productivity, and the capacity to handle large orders, we can assure our customers that all contractual obligations will be fulfilled on time.”
